So while looking at my fellow ChomPics members' blog posts, I suddenly became intimidated by their wittiness. Who knew the people I have the pleasure of working with every week are so funny and smart? If you've seen any one of ChomPics productions you'd agree. It makes me wonder, am I that witty? I don't know, we'll just have to see. But what I do know is that working on "The Bite" has been an experience I can barely put into words. Making this whole blog post thing pretty difficult.
Pretty sweet segue, am I right?
Here in the glorious Gator Nation, I may seem like your typical freshman Telecommunications News major. But I am also lucky enough to be a beat reporter for ChomPics Productions entertainment news program "The Bite" in my own segment called the "Viral Vault." Can you believe that? I get to work with an absolutely magical production team with more ambition and thirst for perfection than I've ever seen. Everyone puts in so much effort to make "The Bite" a reality, and when it's time to post we've pretty much got ourselves a masterpiece. My whole job is to roam the web in search of things to laugh at... Then I stand in front of a camera (and most times a green screen) and spit out my findings in a flurry of comedic subtleties and sarcasm. Then my wonderful tech person Zach Powell takes the reins and transforms it into a real work of art.
I've gotten to comment on everything from the weirdest dance crazes to Jameis Winton's epic fails to the most adorable little creatures all across the Internet. And there are other people just like me, who get to comment on beauty, and fashion, and TV shows, and celebrity gossip, and generally judge the hell out of famous people... With no negative consequences! I'm pretty sure we have the most chill job there is. And by the end of all the chaos with the producers making sure everyone checks out equipment or gets film time in the studio or submits their pitches and edits on time, we share it with the world. What more could the public want!?
If you didn't know, my dream is to become the next Barbara Walters. And "The Bite" has brought me one step closer to that. You might be thinking, Ol' Barb didn't start in entertainment news, but everyone has to start somewhere. Let it be known I applied to be a beat reporter without even knowing what a beat was...
But when I started my segment, I couldn't have been more pumped. You're telling me I essentially get to be the Tosh.0 of ChomPics? That's pretty sweet. You bet I took that opportunity.
Nonetheless, working on "The Bite" has helped me grow and adapt to the career I am trying to pursue, and exposed me to a whole other part of the typical college experience. Right now I get to work on the FUN stuff, and even if later on I'll be reporting on something entirely different (and chances are much more serious), college is about having fun. The friends I've made and the skills I've acquired are priceless, and I'm happy to attribute my first pieces of work to Chompics and "The Bite."
Even if their outstanding wit, precision, and drive can be intimidating, it's quite clear: ChomPics people are the best people (and I get to be one of them!)
