I was asked to write one of these “guest blog posts” quite a while ago and I have been expertly putting it off. But, alas! No more! Blerg, here we go… Hi. I’m Micaela Fagan, I’m a freshman telecommunications major, and I play Amy on “Pressed.”
I don’t have a good reason for my procrastination. I have several. One, writing is hard and time-consuming. Two, college is hard and time-consuming. Three, there is no way I am going to be able to accurately express how much of a joy and an honor that being a part of this project has been.
Things are about to get cheesy… Woah! Was that a pun? Was that a cheese pun!? No. It was not. A pun is “a joke exploiting the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings.” So, actually, it was just a figure of speech. Everyone calm down.
ChomPics is the greatest collection of human beings I have ever met. Let me tell you something, people of the Internet. These are some talented kids. They are creative, ambitious, and intelligent. They came up with a story. They had auditions for the characters and picked me; something I still can’t believe. They used real-life equipment that cost real-life money. Then we memorized lines (kind of), and we made a show. A show.
There is a show online right now, with a plot and jokes and camera shots that I’m involved in! I white-girl rap the title sequence! I’m doing what I thought I would have to wait until after college to even pursue. And, I get to eat grilled cheese in multiple consecutive takes. I’m having so much fun. They’ve created a Muenster. That was a cheese pun.
I used “they” to describe ChomPics a little while ago and I don’t know why. I’m definitely in ChomPics…I signed paperwork that says so. I just refuse to believe that what I’m doing counts as work. I’m told that ChomPics is a production company, which signifies there must be a communal effort, perhaps accompanied by some degree of struggle, to create content. I guess that’s pretty true to what “Pressed” has been for everyone, but I just feel like I’ve gotten to go on a bunch of play dates with my very best friends. I quite literally got to play “house” with Sarah Groendyke in a legit house. We play “restaurant” with real food! None of that plastic crap! (Please let it be known that I actually think that plastic foods are adorable. They are the kittens of the toy industry).
In conclusion, the only thing that I love more than ChomPics is apparently italics.
Thank you so much for watching “Pressed.” If you have not seen it, do it. Do it. Did you see that? That was the exact same phrase repeated successively and it sounded different in your head because of italics. The world is a magical place.
Also, upon reflection, I’m realizing that saying, “Things are about to get cheesy” more accurately exemplifies the definition of “pun” than I thought it did. I’m sorry.
