Hello all! My name is Rene Ciarmataro and I co-head wrote the pilot episode of “Pressed.”

When I was asked to write the pilot episode again (see: “Off University” pilot), I was flattered. A little nervous, I’ll admit. But flattered mostly. We only had to introduce a few characters in a specific situation in a specific location in which, well, “wackiness ensues” (that’s something they say in the business, right?). What could possibly go wrong?

I was paired up to write with Del (full name Delmonte) and it was lovely. If you’ve ever had a friend who supported all your dumb ideas, the kind of person who’d hear a pun or a wacky line and when you quickly denounced your idea and said something along the lines of “haha nah, that was stupid” and still go along with it, that was him. Plus, we had a joke that whenever someone would call us on set for questions and refer to us as “the writers,” we would immediately link back-to-back arms crossed, Charlie’s Angels-esque. Anyone who’s willing to go along with that happily is my kind of friend. I hope he’s not embarrassed that I’m mentioning that. Eh, whatever.

We thought it might be nice to make this series a little more surreal than “Off University,” and I think it turned out really well. It allows us to make more out-of-the-box jokes and experiment with different themes while still following a realistic plotline. A lot of what you’re seeing is jokes we’d crack on set anyway.

Of course, as if an exact repeat of last year, I’ve had the time of my life working with this group. Every day I learn something new about someone else. We all have something different to bring to the table in creating this show. I can’t say enough about our writing team and the entire crew that worked on episode 1. I have loved growing alongside all of you!

If you’re not already in ChomPics, you should be! There are so many awesome ways to get involved that will surely help your skills in production/theater/society/cooking. Ciarmataro out.
